To protect online consumers, the govt has made it mandatory for all the e-commerce companies to print MRP on goods and other information like manufacturing date, expiry date, net quantity, country of origin and consumer care details.
Among other key changes, it is also necessary that all the companies have to make these declarations in bigger font size so that consumers can easily read the same.
Union Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan has approved amendments to the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules, 2011, that will come into effect from January 1, 2018.
The government said that, this will benefit consumers at large as there are complaints regarding dual MRP for items sold at public places like cinema hall, airport, malls etc.
Flipkart, Amazon India, Snapdeal, Grofers and Bigbasket are some of the leading e-marketplaces entities operating in the country.
