National Award winning filmmaker Hansal Mehta‘s “Omerta“, starring National Award-winning actor Rajkummar Rao, will have its World Premiere at Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2017 in the Special Presentations Opening Film category.
Omerta will follow the story of infamous British-born terrorist Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, who kidnapped and murdered Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002.
Excited about the world premiere at TIFF, Rajkummar said: “I’m extremely happy that it’s been selected for TIFF. After ‘Shahid’ it’s my next film that’s been selected for this prestigious film festival.
The director-actor duo have worked on three films together — Aligarh, CityLights and Shahid.
The duo created history for their collaboration in Shahid, which got the actor a National Award and and became the youngest National Award winner in history.
Mehta said in a statement: “‘Omerta’ is my most provocative film so far. It is a chilling political thriller – a reminder of the volatile times we live in. I’m delighted for the entire team that has patiently and diligently worked on this very difficult film.”
