A new High Performance Athletics Academy will soon be set up in the Kalinga stadium here to providing world class coaching and integrated support services to budding sports persons in the state.
For this reason, the Government of Odisha on Thursday signed an Expression of Intent (EOI) with the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and Athletics Federation of India (AFI) at the State at Secretariat.
The EOI was signed by Vishal Kumar Dev, Commissioner- cum -Secretary , Sports and Youth Services Department, on behalf of the State Government and Adil Sumariwala, President, AFI and Lord Sebastian Coe, President, IAAF in the presence of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
“The athletics academy will provide professional environment and approach to athletes in track and field events in which the sports persons with potential can grow and develop into champion performer,” CM said.
The Academy will be named as “Odisha-AFI-IAFF High Performance Academy“. it would be located at Kalinga Stadium and have professional environment and support to athletics, track and field events.
Sources said the state Sports and Youth Services Department will provide funds and make sure availability of necessary infrastructure and support services, including an outdoor stadium. Besides, the IAAF will assist in educating elite coaches and provide specialists. The AFI will assist in management of the academy and selection of the head of the Academy, Indian coaches, teachers and other staff.
