Illegal Sand Transport To Uttar Pradesh, Railway Police Has Arrested Two Accused

In a major success in its drive against the sand mafia, the Cuttack district administration seized around 42 wagon-loads of sand from a goods train at the Nirgundi Station here on Friday while transporting sand illegally to Uttar Pradesh (UP).

Acting on the information by Tangi tehsildar, Cuttack collector and other administrative officials and police conducted a surprise raid and detained sand.

The Cuttack Railway Police has arrested two accused identified as Sanjay Prasanna of Bihar and Akshya Sahu of Jajpur in Odisha.

As per rule, prior permission of the State Government is required for transportation of minerals to other States.

The agency, allegedly committing the illegal transportation, has been asked to produce necessary documents and further course of action will be initiated accordingly by the district administration.

Sources said that 3800 tonnes of sand was about to be illegally transported to UP from Cuttack in 42 wagons of the goods train.
