Indian Railways has terminated services of 13 employees, including a junior engineer, in Northern Railway holding them responsible for the Utkal Express derailment on August 19 that killed 23 people and over 150 were injured.
“Thirteen people have been removed from job under section 14/2 of the Railways Act for dereliction of duty and gross negligence in the Muzaffarnagar’s Khatauli area derailment case,” Railway Ministry spokesperson Anil Saxena said
Under this section, the services of any rail staff found guilty of gross negligence can be terminated without an inquiry.
The railway had earlier sent on leave, three top officials, including a secretary-level Railway Board officer, suspended four officers and transferred one in connection with the derailment.
